Session

This will be an interactive session/discussion that will provoke delegates to consider how different generational and cultural expectations in work practices and the workforce might affect the client-coach-supervisor (C-C-S) system. For example, Millennials are increasingly being promoted into senior leadership positions and consequently accessing coaching support. Within the C-C-S system they are highly likely to be working with a coach from a different generational background, who might have the same life expectations or world views. Further, the coach is likely to have a supervisor who may be even further removed from the clients (Millennials) life experiences. This is a fairly recent phenomenon and one that is only just beginning to become of interest to researchers. The session will be organised into two discrete elements;

The first element will set out the context of why different generational or cultural expectations might be relevant. There is little research in respect of generational issues in coaching and none from a supervision perspective, however we will present relevant ‘themes’ from the research that has been undertaken. The second element will consist of a presentation of survey data from a short survey of coach supervisors on their experiences of generational issues in their practice.
