Motivation is a mysterious word! It is a delicate area in coaching. We all ‘know’ what it is, but the elixir of motivation is like the genie in the bottle. When we assist a client to open up an area of their life fraught with former ‘failures’ and ‘missed opportunities’, we can be like skiers walking across a potential avalanche zone. Only after effective coaching can some ‘avalanche zone explorers’ (people afraid of offending others) move towards the confidence level needed for self-inclusion in a difficult area.
How might we do this in a short, 30-minute coaching session, where every question needs to be of laser-like focus? How does an effective coach assist people to:

Marilyn Atkinson is the Founder of Erickson Coaching International and originator of the comprehensive, Solution-Focused, and Outcome-Oriented Coaching model. As a Solution-Focused Coach, she has honed specific methods for various kinds of coaching engagements, making the tools effective and easy for people to use in a variety of contexts.
This model has actively contributed to the expansion of Solution-Focused Coaching and the development of Meta Program Analysis for effective managerial approaches worldwide. A former Registered Organisational Psychologist, Marilyn has developed many coach training programmes both for global companies and for coach practitioners of divergent cultures. The programmes promote inclusivity among and between many culturally diverse peoples. Since founding Erickson in 1980, Marilyn has developed many effective, specialised coach training programmes (including the ICF ACTP-accredited The Art & Science of Coaching). Her many-faceted coaching programs are currently being taught in 45 countries.
Marilyn has written and co-authored eight books including ‘The Art & Science of Coaching’ trilogy. She is celebrated for assisting corporate leaders to develop resilient, motivated teamwork across multicultural environments.
